Council to consider waste jury proposals
A report on the findings of the Citizens' Jury on the City's waste collection and recycling service is to be considered by Councillors next Monday, 15 October, at 4.00 pm in the Council House.
The special joint meeting of the Quality of Life and Physical Environment Scrutiny Commissions has been convened to formally receive and discuss the proposals before they are tabled for determination by Full Council and Cabinet in December.
The main recommendations to emerge from the Jury's four-day deliberations in September were the use of a new promotional slogan "Don't waste Bristol, recycle"; better enforcement mechanisms and processes; the retention of fortnightly collections but increased and more visible recycling facilities - particularly for blocks of flats and houses in multiple occupation (HMOs).
The Chairman of the Quality of Life Scrutiny Commission Councillor Richard Eddy has warmly welcomed the opportunity given to examine these ideas in greater detail.
Cllr Eddy (Con, Bishopsworth) said: "I am pleased that after consideration of all the facts, the Citizens' Jury seems to have come up with what looks like some really well thought-through concrete proposals.
"Despite the criticism levelled at the panel from certain quarters, the faith and confidence Council has placed in this consultative process has been more than justified.
"I am grateful for all the time and effort that has been put into preparing this report and very much look forward to finding ways to take the jurors' ideas forward."
